Description

STOP 1: AGRICULTURE
Cambodia’s weather can be fairly extreme, and during the rainy season the rice paddies which make up Cambodia’s rural areas become almost completely submerged in water. As you take in this vast, beautiful scene, your tour guide (who may have had experience working in this sector themselves) will talk you through all the processes involved in Siem Reap’s agriculture, and its significance to the locals’ way of life.

STOP 2: HANDMADE BASKETS
Leading on from this, you’ll see how the people of Siem Reap weave and trade in handmade baskets. Siem Reap, like everywhere in Cambodia, was severely affected by the Khmer Rouge regime between 1975 and 79, and aside from the terrible loss of life, many upcoming industries were crippled. These handmade baskets are just one example of how the rural economy survived, relying on nature as it always did.

STOP 3: LOCAL MARKET
Next up, you’ll ride through Siem Reap’s bustling market, where you’ll have the opportunity to browse and purchase dozens of handmade souvenirs, as well as many delicious local foods.  As ever your guide will be happy to answer any questions you have, and explain the central role markets play in Cambodia’s rural economy.

STOP 4: KHMER NOODLE
Your final stop will give you an intriguing, close-up education into how Khmer noodles are produced. This unique method of producing noodles makes for a distinct, aromatic taste, and over the years they have grown in popularity across the whole country, becoming an essential part to many famous dishes.

STOP 5: RICE WINE
After cycling along the main road out of Siem Reap, your tour guide will take you to a rice wine distillery. The drink has a long history in this particular region, and is popular all over the Cambodian countryside.  The locals use rice wine not only for recreation, but also as a natural, holistic medicine for various illnesses.

Cuisine is one of the most enticing features of a destination. When in Sapa town - a mountainous area in the northern part of Vietnam, spend your time trying out all the scrumptious food in Sapa food court - food paradise in the poetic town.
