Free Soul With Bike On Trails - Half-Day Tour

What To Expect

This tour is made for those who look for natural aspects to a holiday, letting you explore the peaceful forests around Battambang by bicycle. Here, you’ll get a close up view of how nature and agricultural communities co-exist in rural Cambodia. The route itself is best suited for experienced cyclists, as there are a few challenging climbs, but these are broken up by patches of shade and interesting stops where you can relax and take in the spectacular views.

Description

STOP 1: RICE PADDIES
No trip to the Cambodian countryside would be complete without seeing the rice paddies which stretch for miles around the villages and forest. As we travel, you’ll be able to see the local farmers tending to their crops, and your tour guide will deliver a short, informative talk about the history and significance of this sector in the local area.
STOP 2: FAMILY BUSINESS
At our next stop, you’ll meet a few of the locals and learn something of their day to day life in Battambang. In this small, rural community, dozens of families have come to depend on traditional skills and crafts, some of which have been handed down from generation to generation for centuries. You’ll find yourself surprised at the high quality of produce which comes out of this dated infrastructure.
STOP 3: PAGODA VISIT
Next, we’ll take a break from cycling to learn more about Khmer culture and customs. Pagodas of all sizes and designs are found all over East Asia, and hold special religious significance to millions. Here at Battambang’s local Pagoda, we’ll have the opportunity to talk to a few monks, and find out how and why they have dedicated their lives to a spiritual pursuit.

STOP 4: RICE STRAW MUSHROOM MAKING
Mushrooms, although not usually associated with Asian cuisine, are a central part to dozens of rural Cambodian dishes. After chaining up our bikes and walking among a few quaint cottages, we’ll meet one of the local rice straw mushroom makers. He’ll be happy to inform us on all the stages of his particular trade, and how many Cambodian families rely on the vegetable for a living.
STOP 5: RICE WINE
Towards the end of our tour, we’ll stop to learn about rice wine, a beverage made from local ingredients and to a traditional recipe. This drink is a big part of rural Cambodian culture, and is always present at special occasions such as weddings, birthdays and the Khmer New Year. Your guide will teach you about every stage of the distilling process, and if you’d like you’ll be able to try some of the wine fresh from the brewers!
