What To Expect
This tour sets out in the early morning, and takes you from the centre of Battambang to the archaically beautiful Ek Phnom temple. Ek Phnom lies in the forests surrounding Tkov village, around 14km from the centre of Battambang town. This ancient Buddhist temple was built in 1027 AD, during the reign of King Suryavarman I, nestled in the many banian trees which grow in the region. On the way from Battambang, you’ll be able to stop at many points of interest.
Description
STOP 1: RICE PAPER
Before we delve far into the countryside to learn about the history of the region, we’ll make a short stop to explore the local way of life at present. Rice paper is made through an intriguing and delicate process in the Cambodian countryside, and has provided countless families with a livelihood. At this stop, we’ll talk to a long-time resident of Battambang who relies heavily on the local rice paddies, in order to learn first-hand about his trade.
STOP 2: KHMER HAND SCART MAKING
On our way to Ek Phonm, we’ll stop at a scarf-making workshop. Here, you’ll learn a bit about the craftwork behind in these exotic accessories, and the many different styles of wearing them, which in some circles of Khmer society can is used to show someone’s profession or colloquial customs. You’ll also have the opportunity to browse or purchase the many beautiful pieces on display.
STOP 3: EK-PHNOM TEMPLE
As you probably already know, there are hundreds of Buddhist temples scattered throughout Asia, each one with a rich and interesting history behind it. As we walk around this ancient ruin, you’ll learn all about the social and political factors leading to its construction, how the temple has featured in local legends, and the many challenges faced by Khmer Buddhists over the years. Your tour guide will even point out a few exact spots where particularly significant events unfolded. Another nearby Wat went through a particularly tragic period under the Khmer Rouge regime, which your tour guide will explain in detail.
STOP 4: RICE PADDIES
Most of areas in Cambodia, the majority lands were using as the rice farms. Battambang province is widely known as the vast of rice field and it is the main economic point in Cambodia.
STOP 5: OLD TEMPLE STORY
Pagoda or Wat were built almost everywhere in Battambang as well as the whole Cambodia. All theses, because Cambodia is practicing Buddhism and it is a state religion. This pagoda has different history from other pagodas. when you will be there with our tour guides, you will learn about what was happened in that pagoda during Pol Pot regime.
